One such activity is fishing, where the traditional way is still used and honestly, it is more fun.   • Rod FishingRod fishing technique Commonly known as Garovap, it is a rod fishing technique that was used by fishermen in the yesteryears. That being said, most of the fishermen still use the rod fishing technique in the villages, if they go for tidal river fishing. It is the simple technique of holding a fishing rod that is made out of bamboo. All you have to do is sit or stand on the bank of the river, hold the rod, and wait for the capture. You can also take a boat if you wish to try your luck of catching a fish in the middle of the local water bodies. If you want to make things a little more dramatic, you can wear those round conventional hats.   • Line Fishingline fishing technique Conventionally known as Poler, it is a traditional line fishing technique that comes in handy if you are on the look of catching big sized fish. If you drive to any of the bridges in Goa or the fishing spots in the state, you will see a lot of people fishing with no rod in hand but with fishing lines. For the same, you need to have monofilament lines, fly lines, leader lines, braided lines, and so on; you can select them based on the strength, durability, and other such factors that meet your preferences.   • Gill Net FishingBest fishing techniques Last but not the least; gill net fishing is yet another traditional technique of fishing that fishermen use in Goa. It is locally known as Katali and this technique is usually carried out in water bodies like lakes and ponds. Here, a large net is cast over the water and there are floats at the edges that help in ensuring that the surface remains covered with the net; while the bottom part of the gill net submerges to form a trap. Gill nets are available at the fishing equipment shops in Goa.
    In addition to these, stick nets that are called Khutanis, cast net or Paghel, Crab trap or Kobli are some of the other fishing techniques in Goa that one can undertake.
